Summer can be a challenging time for rabbits as they are very sensitive to heat. Unlike humans, rabbits cannot sweat to cool themselves down. Here are some essential tips to keep your bunny safe and comfortable during the hot months.

1. Provide Plenty of Fresh Water

Ensure your rabbit always has access to cool, fresh water. You can even add an ice cube to their water bowl to keep it chilled for longer.

2. Create a Cool Environment

Keep your rabbit's living area out of direct sunlight. If they live indoors, close curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day. For outdoor rabbits, ensure their hutch is in a shaded area with good airflow.

3. Use Cooling Mats or Frozen Bottles

Place a frozen water bottle wrapped in a towel in their enclosure. Your rabbit can lean against it to cool down. Specialized cooling mats are also available at pet stores.

4. Groom Regularly

Brushing your rabbit regularly helps remove excess fur, which can trap heat. This is especially important for long-haired breeds.

5. Watch for Signs of Heatstroke

Symptoms include panting, lethargy, drooling, and red ears. If you suspect heatstroke, move your rabbit to a cool place immediately and contact your vet.
